If I were the Phillies GM…

Bastardo, Antonio - makes $500k in 2012, arbitration next year, will be back for the same, sigh.

Blanton, Joe Signed a three-year, $24 million deal with the Phillies on January 21, 2010. Eligible for free agency following the 2012 season after making $8.5 mil this season. Doubt anyone would want him in a trade, would have to pay the rest of his contract for sure. Might be worth it we can get ‘anything’ in return.

Contreras, Jose Signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal on November 15, 2010. 2013: $2.500 or $0.500 buyout (team option). He’s old and useless now.  Buyout for 500k, happy retirement money, Jose.

Halladay, Roy Acquired from Toronto in December, 2009. Signed a three-year extension with a one-year option, following the trade.
2012: $20.000
2013: $20.000
2014: $20.000 (option)
Option year vests with 225 IP in 2013, 415 IP in 2012 and 2013 AND he is not on the DL at the end of the 2013 season. - interesting, he won’t hit the 415 IP in 2012 with the injury. You pay Doc his $20 mil in 2013 and go from there.

Hamels, Cole making $15 mil this year in an arbitration year. UFA after this season. TRADE, TRADE, TRADE.  We aren’t winning crap this year, he’s going to get $125 mil deal starting next year which we can’t afford.  Get 1st round picks, plus some high profile 2B/SS/3B AAA kids who will be ML ready by 2014. Get the best deal out there for a contender at the trade deadline.

Herdnon, David -release him after this year.

Howard, Ryan Signed a five-year, $125 million deal on April 26, 2010.
2012: $20.000
2013: $20.000
2014: $25.000
2015: $25.000
2016: $25.000
2017: $23.000 (club option or $10.000 buyout)
Oh my good God what was Amaro thinking. Get healthy, and get ready for 2013, Ryan.  Do not rush anything with this comeback.

Kendrick, Kyle
2012: $3.00
2013: $4.50
2014: ARB- ok, I can live with Kendrick and this deal. He’s very average but will turn in some good games, long reliever, emergency starter. Money is ok for this role.

Lee, Cliff Signed a five-year, $120 million contract on December 14, 2010.
2012: $21.500
2013: $25.000
2014: $25.000
2015: $25.000
2016: $27.500 or $12.500 buyout (team option). Stuck with this deal for at least 3 more season. Would look to trade if he doesn’t improve by trade deadline 2013 as long as we wouldn’t have to eat his salary.

Manuel, Charlie Signed an extension through the 2013 season. - This year is not Charlie’s fault.  He gets another year to prove himself and then it’s chopping block time.

Martinez, Michael
2012: $0.486  -
resign to a 1 year- $600k contract for 2013

Mayberry Jr., John
2012: $0.495 - resign to a 2 year - $1.5 mil deal for ‘13 and ‘14

Papelbon, Jonathan Signed as a free agent on November 14, 2011.
2012: $11.000
2013: $13.000
2014: $13.000
2015: $13.000
2016: $13.000 vesting option -
he’s our closer for 4 more season

Pence, Hunter Acquired from Houston on 7/29/11.
2012: $10.4 mil in arbitration -
he’s available for arbitration for one more year, pay him something similar to that, let’s say he gets a minor bump - $12 mil for 2013. Wouldn’t lock him in long term.  Too much of a defensive liability.

Pierre, Juan - 800k this year, release him after this year.

Polanco, Placido
2012: $6.250
2013: $5.500 (mutual option) or $1.000 buyout. -
ugh, I like Polly but I think his back is shot and he’s done.  I buy him out, happy trails.

Rollins, Jimmy Signed a three-year $33 million contract December 17, 2012.
2012: $11.00
2013: $11.00
2014: $11.00
2015: $11.00 vesting option -
Jimmy is our starting SS for at least 2 more seasons, possibly 3.

Ruiz, Carlos
2012: $3.700
2013: $5.000 (team option) or $0.500 buyout. -

Schneider, Brian
2012: $800k -
release after this year, bring up a AAA guy if he’s ready or look for a different crafty vet on the market

Schwimer, Michael
2011: $0.400- resign for 500k

Stutes, Michael
2011: $0.400- resign for 500k

Thome, Jim Signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract in November, 2011.
2012: $1.250  -
would trade Thome to an American League team at the deadline looking for a DH for any sort of young IF help

Utley, Chase Signed a seven-year, $75 million contract in January 2007.
2012: $15.000
2013: $15.000
Eligible for free agency following the 2013 season. -
2013 is the ‘all in’ year, it’s the Phils last chance for a Championship with this group.  After that Chase can resign for less or let him go.

Wiggington, Ty

2012: $4.00
2012: $4.00 (club option). DENIED - Released.

Victorino, Shane Signed a three-year, $22 million deal on January 21, 2010.
2012: $9.500
Eligible for free agency following the 2012 season. -
This is the hardest call of all the guys.  What to do with Shane? What’s his value? I’d offer 3 years at $30-35 mil.  Anything more than that you have to trade him at the deadline this year.

Worley, Vance
2012: $0.495 -
Resign to a 3 year - $5 mil deal.  I like Worely.  Would be a good deal for everyone.

BURNING JET BLACK - Magazine Girl

My favorite Commencement speech so far.

If this doesn’t get you excited for E3…well then you must dislike video games.

This is how I feel when I always try to make one more little edit in a FCP timeline.
